ABOUT ABOUT

Tennessee Ballet Theater celebrates Memphis in 901 Stories on Friday and Saturday, May 12 and 13 at 7:00 and 8:30 at the Medicine Factory in downtown Memphis at 85 Virginia Ave West. Drawing on stories throughout Memphis' rich history for inspiration, co-directors Erin Walter and McKenzie Day's 901 Stories is an immersive dance performance in which the audience moves throughout the space during the show to see original works of contemporary dance, ballet and aerial dance created by Memphis choreographers, including Steven Prince Tate, Kristen Osborne Lucas, Sarah Christine Bolton, Kathlyn Prentice and Michael Medcalf. The pieces explore stories about Memphis music, Faulkner's muse Joan Williams, "residents" of Elmwood Cemetery, and the haunting of the Brinkley Women's College in 1871. Audience members will also be treated to a Living Gallery during the show, as they move throughout the space and see the dancers moving in response to art by visual artists, including Katrina Perdue, Grace Porter, Judy Vandergrift, Elizabeth Garat, Betsy Brackin and Ty Randall. Songwriter / performance artist Jordan Occasionally will emcee the event. The atmosphere is festive and interactive, with cash bars open before and during each show, featuring a new cocktail, the Pink Lizzie, crafted by Acre's mixologist Morgan McKinney.
